What Causes Lumps Behind The Ear And At The Back Of Head?

My 10 year old daughter has lumps behind her ear and several at the back of her head. She has had a cold for roughly 2 weeks, mainly a sore throat and a cough. We have given her calpol, we only noticed the lumps today. What do you suggest the lumps might be. Thank you from Maxine

thank you for the query....
from the history you have provided, it seems that your daughter has had a bacterial infection leading to enlargement of the post auricular (behind the ear) and occipital and posterior triangle (back of the head) lymph nodes...they could have been present since last few days and came to your notice today...

however they are very common with sore throats and common cold...
calpol will reduce the fever and malaise but a course of antibiotic will be really useful...tab coamoxyclav 375 thrice a day for 3-5 days should be effective in this situation...for cough, you can use cough syrup twice/thrice daily for dry cough/cough with sputum accordingly...

hope this was helpful...
regards
