What Causes Lump On Neck Below The Ear?

Hi, I have a lump on the right side of my neck, just beside my jaw curve and below my ear. It s been there for about 3 weeks, has not changed in size, and when I push on it moves but once pressure is released it returns to the original spot. My question is: is this something to get checked out?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi! Good morning. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.

From the history, this looks like a lymph node swelling. For a confirmation, I would advise you to get it clinically assessed by your family physician/ENT specialist/ surgeon, who might also do a detailed examination of your oral cavity, ear, and head and neck region for any pathology over there apart from the routine tests like a CBC, and ESR. If nothing is conclusive even after a course of a broad spectrum antibiotic and an anti inflammtory drug, the examining doctor might advise you to go for an FNAC (fine needle aspiration cytology) to know the most probable reason or origin for the lymph node swelling, or any other swelling posing as the lump. They might also go for an X ray chest if need be.

I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.

Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. I wish you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.

General & Family Physician Dr. Ramesh M.Vachharajani's  Response
Hi,
It seems that you might be having enlarged lymph nodes on the part.
It indicates that there might be having some infection in the ear or in mouth like carious teeth or tooth infection.
Consult your doctor and get examined.
Ok and take care.
