What Causes Lump Around The Coccyx?

10 days ago, I found there is a big lump around my coccyx ( measured 50mmx30mmx25mm) My coccyx was injured 10 months ago and there is pain from time to time when I lay down but not serious. I didn t have X-ray then. This lump now on my coccyx is hard by touching it but not pain. Doctor asked me to do an Ultrasound also X-Ray. I did a few days ago. X-ray showed not fracture. Doctor doesn t seem to know what it is as he said never seen such a big lump around coccyx. Now when I touch this lump, it seems like my tailbone is enlarged. Could you tell me what this lump might be? Thanks very much.

Hello,

As per my clinical experience, there can be possibility of chronic hematoma formation at tailbone region following injury episode. Another issue is of pilonidal abscess, but that presents with pain and tenderness, so very less likely.

However, a soft tissue ultrasound of 3D technology will reveal the tissue architecture with echogenic foci to be considered best diagnostic tool in this regard.
