What Causes Lower Left Back Pain?

I have pain in my lower back down my left leg to just above the back of my knee.
Is this sciatica? or could it be kidney stones?
the pain is not constant, but it comes back frequently and will last for three or four days at a time

I think this is not a kidney stone problem .
Based on your description it looks like a sciatica pain referred pain from your back problem.
To confirm it you need to do MRI of the spine and the consultation with the neurologist specialist .
