Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I donated blood today. My heart rate was 52. I workout almost daily and eat a healthy diet with very little preservatives, chemicals, etc. My chest did hurt a little today right at the breastbone, but no other signs indicated a heart attack. My father had a heart attack in his 50's. I'm 46. I don't know if I should attribute the lower heart rate to being active and eating right, or could something be wrong?

What Causes Lower Heart Rate?
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic The normal range for a heart rate is 60 to 100 beats per minute. Persons who are physically fit may have heart rates below the lower limit of 60. Your low heart rate is likely related to your active lifestyle, it is not indicative of impending heart attack. There is an increased risk of heart disease in the following: inactive persons, obesity, hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, smokers, family history. If you maintain a healthy lifestyle and keep the other risk factors in check then you would significantly reduce your chances of heart disease. I hope this helps
