What Causes Lower Back Pain And Blood In Stools?

My 21 year old daughter has had 2 bowel movements this evening and had quite a bit of blood in the stool. No hemorrhoids or tears that she knows of, no pain when she goes, but she is complaining of some low back pain and she isn t feeling well. Should I take her to the ER or wait till morning and have her go to our family Dr. I have 7 kids, but haven t encountered this before.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dr. Hanif warmly welcomes you!

Thanks for consulting at my virtual clinic. I have carefully worked through your case, and can well realize your health worries. Being your physician, I want to assure, I will take care all of your medical concerns.

If she gets another episode, and you feel the blood is fresh red colored and has enough bleed to get worry, you need to take her to ER. They will refer her to gastroenterology unit and they will have to perform colonoscopy for working out the cause of bleed.

Otherwise good to wait for tomorrow to go to her PCP. He will refer her to a gastroenterologist. I will better suggest you to call a gastroenterologist right away at your first priority and make an appointment as they usually have very busy schedules. Then go to PCP for a script of referral.

If you get an appointment for a too late date, go straight to the ER.

Hope I answered all of your questions. Have a wonderful time ahead. Keep in touch for a follow-up too.

Regards!
