Hi,

Lower abdominal pain and changes in bowel movements before periods could be caused by a variety of factors such as hormonal changes, menstrual cramps, endometriosis, or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Hormonal changes can cause changes in the digestive system leading to abdominal pain and altered bowel movements before periods. Menstrual cramps are another common cause of lower abdominal pain before periods. Endometriosis is a condition where the tissue that normally lines the uterus grows outside it and can cause pelvic pain, painful periods, and painful bowel movements. IBS is a chronic digestive disorder that can cause abdominal pain, cramping, bloating, and changes in bowel movements.

Keeping a record of the symptoms and their frequency and severity can help in the diagnosis process. Meet a doctor and follow up accordingly. In the meantime, maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle can help alleviate the symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
