What Causes Lower Abdominal Cramps During Bowel Movement?

ok, after most bowel movements I feel cramping in my lower abdomen. I am pretty regular (usuaally 3 x day, with normal stool. Some time ago prior to colonoscopy the GI doc said the intestines expnad to push the food along, then after elimination, they contract back to normal. But it is very tender for a while. Also if I do any exercise mildly even that is meant for tummy exercise, I can get severe painful spasms as though someone twisted my intestines, and they spring back.

Hello,

Colon spasms are frequently associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). These spasms can be a sign or symptom of the condition. In fact, colon spasms are so common with IBS that the intestinal disorder is also sometimes known as “spastic colon”.

However, not everyone with IBS experiences increased motility, or bowel movements, so the term doesn’t apply for every person with IBS.

These contractions are often painful and obvious, while normal contractions are rarely noticeable.

Virtually any workout engages your abdominal wall muscles, some more than others. Abdominal pain that develops 8 to 24 hours after a workout might be due to delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS).

This type of pain usually develops if your workout included new abdominal exercises, or increased reps or intensity of familiar exercises.

If the symptoms persist or you feel its worsening, better to see a gastroenterologist for treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
