What Causes Low Platelet Count?

Hi, From last 3-4yrs whenever I go for my physicals, I always get an answer that my platelets counts is low, when I say low, it follows like this 2013 - count was 87 (after 15 days retested and the count was 93), In 2014- count was 109 and retested it was back to 112, In 2015 - Count was 106, my doctor suggested a scan on spleen, liver and pancreas, all the sizes came back normal, now in 2016 - count was 103 and the B12 range was just above the minimal of normal range, so doctor asked me to take B12 supplements for a month and redid the tests, the B12 was above 500 and the platelets counts was still the same 103, Do I need to be concerned about it?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, some individuals may have persistently low counts in some mild cases of ITP. Usually in these ranges its not matter of concern. Just get a peripheral film and liver function tests under check for any abnormalities. You can repeat it three monthly for reassurance. No intervention is needed at this stage. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
