What Causes Low Libido?

I just very recently known about this significant of testosterone hormone... I am 29 now and my testosterone level is only 279. I am pretty much having reduced libido now when compared to few years back than.. I am not overweight , all these years I thought I can manage marriage and relationship easily .. I thought my low libido is due to too much of alcohol and smoking for around 10 years but now after seeing this testosterone reading... I am into depression, anxiety and demotivated. Am I not eligible to get married? Is there any ways to improve this current below par reading 279 to something around 600 which is average for my age? Is it medically possible? Please advice. Dhiran

Hi,

Keep calm and stay away from smoking and drinking.

It appears from the question you narrated, you are concerned (probably concluded) that your decrease in libido is due to lowered testosterone levels.

I assume you aren't suffering from any disease of testis like hypogonadism from birth/childhood.

I also assume you aren't taking any medication which can cause loss of libido as a side effect.

Let me comfort you by stating fact that testosterone values changes from lab to lab and also it's variation is noted throughout a day. And thus it's temporary, considering your age.

I suspect, your history of alcoholism is responsible for your current complaint as liver produces precursor/metabolites of testosterone. So just stay away from alcohol consumption and smoking and have a healthy diet. Also, shield yourself from self abusing doubts.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
