What Causes Low Hemoglobin Level?

I have a low hemoglobin that fluctuates from 10.5 to 12 for the last 7 years. My iron, b12 and folate are all normal. I am taking ferrous sulfate and my hemoglobin is 11.1 right now. I had a hemoccult stool test that was negative. Does this sound dangerous or like cancer or intestinal bleeding?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Low Hb% in male is 13.5 gm/dL & in female 12 gm/dL . Low Hb% is commonly caused due to a poor health condition, iron deficiency anemia, colon cancer or leukemia.

You are suggested to visit a GP & get blood workout done, CBC, Urinalysis, bone marrow investigations to rule out anemia or leukemia.

You will also have to go through a few imaging tests (X-Ray, CT, MRI) to rule out any pathology that may be indicative of some malignancy.

Take iron, calcium supplements along with vitamins. Take homemade nourishing food rich in protein, liver, beans, leafy vegetables, nuts, etc.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
