What Causes Low Diastolic Blood Pressure?

My Mother is 75. Her blood pressure has been running 135/49 and heart rate 77 as of today's reading. She had two stents a few months ago and was placed on a blood thinner for a year. SHe does take a blood pressure med but has not been taking it due to her BP not being too high. I am concerned about her diastolic though. Should there be a concern about the reading of 49 as she has said she has been a little tired or could it be the blood thinner she is on causing this ?

Hello,

Welcome to HCM.
Appreciate your concern for your mother.
Elderly people with low diastolic blood pressure have a high prevalence of left ventricular hypertrophy, increased ventricular-arterial stiffness, and a tendency for diastolic dysfunction and heart failure. An Echocardiogram would helpful to detect these.
Blood thinners are not considered a cause. If your mother is on medicines like hydralazine supplements like Ginkgobiloba which produce peripheral vascular dilatation, it can be a cause for the low diastolic blood pressure.
Last but not least is the method of taking blood pressure. Excess pressure on the artery can produce a falsely low diastolic reading.
I am available if you have more queries.
