What Causes Low Appetite When Diagnosed With Diverticulosis?

I have diverticulosis and have had 4 polyps in the past. Over the past few month I have had loss of appetite and weight loss over 20lbs. Sharp pains in the belly with changes in bowel movements. I have been more tired than normal. My doctor does monitor me closely because I m high risk with a family history of cancer and the fact that I have already had polyps. The last time I was at my doctor and she ran test my white cell count was low.

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concerns.
Known case of diverticulosis means there is a focus of an intestinal infection which as a reflex causes loss of appetite as body's normal reaction.
Also worrisome is the history of cancer in family and presence of polyps in colon, which I am sure must have been removed and subjected to the histopathology and turned out to be benign.
Yes, you have to have regular follow-up colonoscopy and CT scan of abdomen and get active management whenever indicated so.
Low white count can have multiple reasons and one of them being viral fever, medications or reduced production and it is best to take an opinion of a Hematologist to get a proper management.
