What Causes Low HB Level In A 4 Year Old?

My niece is 4 years old. she is suffering from a disease which doctors here are unable to diagnose till now. actually when she was about one year old she fell from bed 2-3 times when she was sleeping. Nothing happens at that time but after 3-4 days of that incidence she started to bleed from nose. doctors did every effort to stop the flow of blood but it all went in vain.after the Haemoglobin test doctors found that her Hb is very low (3-5)and adviced that she needs blood. as her haemoglobin increased after blood transfusion we found that bleeding stopped from her nose. After that whenever she gets ill her Haemoglobin falls down to 3 and she starts to bleed again. This all was continued till she got 3 years old. For last 6-8 months she is bleeding from her gums instead of nose and all this happens after she get ill specially when she suffers from fever, blood starts to come out. Another problem with her is that whenever she gets injured even very small injury cause a very big stain at the spot of injury or wound even when mosquito bites her there is a very big stain of about 5cm at that spot. I have all her reports that doctors here adviced us. Plz give me the email address where i can send these reports so that you can study her case in detail. I shall be grateful to you forever if you help us out from this problem. THANK U

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi, i think your child has hemophilia or von willebrand deficiency, such symptoms occurs in these condition. I suggest you to do PT, APTT, Platelets, factor 8 and factor 9 assay, von willebrand antigen test. Since blood has all the factors, that's why your child improves after giving blood. A follow up reports is necessary to make accurate diagnosis. I hope this has helped you. Wishing your child good health. Take care.
