Doctor my mother aged 65 has her gall bladder 8 months back after scan showed calculi. scan was done as part of investigation for her sever ulcer problem an d stomach pain. but then as per doctors advice lapro was done and 2 moths she was ok. then similar problems started creeping up and since 2 months she is having diarrhea on and off and physician now diagnosed as IBS, and pit her on medication. but her loose motion with twisting pain is frequent. all the other investigations shows normal. so much of anti diarrheas and ors et etc/ She is frustrated/? what can be the cause and what to do. suggest.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history related to your Mother who had acidity problem and incidentally gall bladder calculi were found, which was removed but the problem of another nature started like diarrhea and twisting pain which is not amenable to IBS treatment. I would advise her the following: Enteroclysis as there is twisting pain which indicate there can be a partial obstruction or so. The diarrhea can be due to irritation of the intestines and hence needs the tests of stool for 3 consecutive days and to reduce the fat in eh daily intake to almost nil to see if it helps.then also needed is a CT scan of the abdomen and upper GI as well as colonoscopy. This will get the proper diagnosis and a plan for treatment.
