What Causes Lockjaw After Removing The Teeth?

I have locked jaw. It is from a dental surgeon that extracted 2 back teeth. I felt like he was breaking my jaw. IThe surgery lasted for 2 hours with my mouth pried open. The annesetic didn't work. He was pushing down very hard and was using a saw and I don't know what else. The jaw developed dry socket where he removed the teeth. The pain is finally gone but I can't open my mouth very wide. It has been 5 weeks. Help

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from a condition known as Trismus or locked jaw post extraction and in your case probable causes can be infection, jaw joint injury or muscle spasms.

I would suggest you to consult your Oral Surgeon and get evaluated and a clinical evaluation and investigations like Panoramic x Ray can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

In case of infection antibiotics and painkillers can be advised..
In case of muscle spasm a course of antiinflammatory painkiller and muscle relaxant along with physiotherapy can be advised..
In case of jaw joint related injuries treatment will be done as per cause..
The surgeon can also use a Mouth prop to gradually increase mouth opening..
Avoid hard foods and do not try very hard to open mouth to prevent any complications..

Hope this helps..

Regards
