What Causes Locking Up Of Fingers?

what are come medical conditions that could cause a finger (left hand/ring finger) to suddenly start locking in closed position? When I close my hand/fingers around something about the circumference of a medicine bottle and then let go, 4 fingers open back out as usual. But, one finger stays closed until I use other hand to work with and open out the closed finger. No pain. No bone appears broken. ????? No cut or bruise.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The condition you are suffering from is called Trigger finger & is caused by repeated use of the finger leading to inflation of the sheath covering.

Muscle-tendon does the tendon can not move freely, the movement becomes difficult to keep it locked in the position.

Home management consists of rest(avoid the troubleshooting movements), over the counter anti-inflammatory pills would help.

Consultation of an orthopaedic doctor may provide a splint to keep the finger straight/injection of steroid locally can relieve inflammation. Few patients need surgery to relieve the thing.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
