What Causes Lightheadedness And Motor Imbalance In A Woman Suffering With Hearing Loss?

Off and on, for the past 3 days, I have been feeling unusually light headed and my balance has been off. Usually, I do not experience these things. I am a 63-yr-old woman. In the past, I have experienced some high blood pressure and used to take medicine. Since I retired, the BP went down, so I do not take meds anymore. I have been retired 3 years. Today, my BP is 161/91 with 78 pulse. I am 5 4 , 142 lbs. and have had a nagging cough for 3 weeks. I have chronic insomnia; always have. I am a happy person, happily married, with no issues. I am concerned that I may have Vertigo. I am deaf in one ear, and wear an aid in the other (80% hearing loss). Thank you.

Hello,

Thanks for your query on HCM

"As"per your clinical history is concerned please follow like this -

Do take medication in low dose for Blood pressure regularly because your pressure is little high as per present guidelines.

Do take few lifestyle modifications like this-

1)Eat healthy foods. Eat a healthy diet. Try the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet, which emphasizes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, poultry, fish and low-fat dairy foods. Get plenty of potassium, which can help prevent and control high blood pressure. Eat less saturated fat and trans fat.

2)Try to decrease the salt in your diet.

3)Try to maintain a healthy weight. Keeping a healthy weight, or losing weight if you're overweight or obese, can help you control your high blood pressure and lower your risk of related health problems. If you're overweight, losing even 5 pounds can lower your blood pressure.

4)Increase physical activity. Regular physical activity can help lower your blood pressure, manage stress, reduce your risk of several health problems and keep your weight under control.

5)Try to limit alcohol. Even if you're healthy, alcohol can raise your blood pressure. If you choose to drink alcohol, do so in moderation.

6)Don't smoke. Tobacco injures blood vessel walls and speeds up the process of hardening of the arteries.

7)Try to manage stress. Reduce stress as much as possible. Practice healthy coping techniques, such as muscle relaxation, deep breathing or meditation. Getting regular physical activity and plenty of sleep can help, too.

Do take a cough syrup for cough and check your blood differential count.

Hope that helps
