What Causes Less Amount Of Blood And Coagulation During Blood Donation?

I have been a regular blood donor and my donation of up to 27 donations has been trouble free and usually the donation is over in about 10 minutes. The last but one blood donation they could only get about half or less of the donation before my blood coagulated and blocked the needle in my arm, this time they could not get any blood for the donation and in fact had to prick my finger twice and squeeze really hard to get a drop for the iron test. Question is the Blood Transfusion Service didn t seem worried and the message back from my Doctor is not to worry!! Should I be worried I am a fit healthy and very active male 67 6 feet and 16.5 stone

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Your doctor said rightly that you are absolutely fine and fit. This problem was just due to fired vein because of multiple pricks at same site for collecting blood for donation. No need of worry and next time use different site for collecting blood.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pramod Kokare, General & Family Physician
