What Causes Left-sided Soreness In Throat?

I get a sore throat that builds off the left side of my throat often. It seems to be where my tonsils use to be. When I stick my pinky down to touch it, I can feel that it is rough and sensitive, though I do not feel this roughness on the other side of my throat. What could this be and are there solutions to preventing it? I am a vocalist for a living and this has been an on going problem for some time now. I do typically have sinus and allergy problems, which is what I have always assumed this was.... But I just went through my second round of amoxiccillen (spell check?) and though the meds get rid of it, it usually kicks back in about 3-5 days later.

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

Throat pain are due to viral infection, but in some cases it is related to bacterial infection (streptococcal pharyngitis).

In your case,it could be left tonsillitis as you are also having allergic and sinus problem.

You might require routine blood counts with throat examination, pharyngoscopy to rule out non infective causes.

Therefore it is advisable to see the doctor. Preferably you must see ENT specialist for complete medical history including history of sensitivity to antibiotics and thoroughly clinical examination.

You might require antibiotics (to prevent superinfection if cause is viral) with analgesics, antiinflammatories, decongestants and nebulization with steam inhalation.

Amoxicillin is a good antibiotic but it should be taken as a full course to prevent relapse.

In the meanwhile you can start warm salt water gargles.
