What Causes Laryngitis Post Accidental Exposure To Ammonia Based Bathroom Cleaner?
I was cleaning with ammonia in bathroom and the next day with bleach.my throat was killing me so I went to the emergency room. I have laryngitis now. I'm on Flovent and was on steroids. How long will it take to get my voice back?could I have done serious damage?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain fumes originating from ammonia as well as bleach are caustic in nature and can lead to chemical injury to the throat leading to inflammation and swelling and it has led to inflammation of vocal cords leading to Laryngitis.. The recovery will definitely take place but the duration of healing will depend upon the extent of damage and can take for about ten day for resolution..
As of now you can gargle with warm saline water and continue taking steroids and steroid nasal sprays like Flovent [Fluticasone].. You can also do steam inhalations.. Take a soft diet.. Avoid spicy food..
In case of no improvement consult an Otolaryngologist and get Laryngoscopy done..
Hope this information helps..
