What Causes Large White Bumps On The Back Of Tongue?

I have large whitle bumps on the back of my tongue that feels like I burnt it. I didn t drink anything too hot either to cause the burning feeling.. My throat is sore. I do have ear pain which I have very often, way before I discovered the white bumps on my tongue. I m concerned that they may lead down further into my throat since they are in the back of my tongue. Could it be cancer?

Hi,
Welcome to healthcare magic.
I had gone through your question. I can understand your concern.

The bumps on the back of my tongue are enlarged taste bud papillae secondary to upper respiratory infection. Once the infection comes down, this will be fine. Don't worry, this is unlikely to be a cancer.

I recommend the following.

1) A course of antibiotics for your respiratory and ear infection.
2) Analgesics like tablet paracetamol for pain relief.
3) Salt water gargling. Add a pinch of salt to a glass of warm water.

You will be fine.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any questions, I am happy to help you.

Wish you a good health and speedy recovery.

Regards,
