What Causes Large Black Blotches In Vision Every Morning?

For the past few days on awakening I have experienced LARGE black blotches in my line of vision when I first awaken and get out of bed. They disappear after a few minutes. Today, all day, after the black spots I have blurred vision. Should I be alarmed?

Hello,

Black spots on momentary appearance with disappearance within minutes are of no clinical significance. Kindly follow basic modalities to get back to normal
- Avoid excess television watching or mobile / laptop use at night
- Drink more liquids to maintain hydration
- Splashing of both eyes with cold water every morning on waking
- Control of blood sugar
- One time visit to ophthalmologist by appointment

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
