Hi! I am 77 years old and I have been told my health is exceptionally good for my age. But at different times, each side of my tongue has become red and sensitive. In the past, my dentist has checked it and found nothing abnormal, except possibly a sharp point on a one of my lower molars, which he has filed down a little. I m not sure that has helped, but the sensitivity usually clears up in a few days. But a few minutes ago, I happened to look under my tongue and panicked when I noticed how large and blue the veins were. I know my ankles sometimes swell due to age related thinning of my veins, but am afraid to think of what the swollen sublingual veins might mean. If it matters, I m not on any prescribed meds and the only dietary supplements I take are Vitamin D and fish oil. I also clench my teeth while sleeping, and sometimes wonder if I m also biting the side of my tongue, but my dentist has never been alarmed by what ehe sees.
