Hallow Dear Kayla,

Your self diagnosis seems to be correct and I must compliment you for the same. You seem to have urinary tract infection.

Urinary tract infections in addition to urinary symptoms like burning urination, pain in the lower abdomen and/or back below the ribs radiating to the front also invariably causes high fever with shivering. Pain and high fever may cause loss of appetite also. You have burning urination, urgency of urination with fever and cramps. This all is suggesting urinary tract infection.

For immediate relief, start drinking plenty of water. Take Tab. Pyridacil ( Phenazopyridine) 2-3 times a day. These are specific urinary pain killers and will give you immediate relief within few hours. These medicines make the urine red coloured for which you need not worry as that is the colour of the medicine.

Please get your urine examined from the laboratory which will clarify whether you have infection. If infection is present, please get urine culture and sensitivity done which will identify the causative organism(s) and the antibiotics to which it/they are sensitive. Accordingly, the antibiotics may be started.

Urinary infections are rather nasty infections and take time to get cured. Some times they call for three courses of antibiotics to completely eradicate the infection.

Please report to a urologist with your reports for appropriate treatment.

I hope this helps you today.
