What Causes Knee Pain While Climbing Up The Stairs?

I have pain in my knee when trying to go up a stairstep. I m recovering from back surgery that affected the sciatic nerve, but I think that is getting better. I stepped on a garden hose last year and had an extremely severe pain in my knee (like kidney stone pain) but just rested and used ice. I got better but after surgery my knee seems to have flared up again.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I would like to give some tests:
1. Chest X-Ray of the Knee
2. Complete Blood Tests including RF and anti-citrullinated antibodies.
3. USG of the Knee

I would like to ask:
1. Is there fever, anytime?
2. Is there weight loss, recently?
3. Are you on any medication?

I would like to give some medicines:
1. For pain, Ibuprofen.
2. Ice/cold Compress

Please post the results of the tests and the answers so that a doctor here can follow you up.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dipan Samanta, General & Family Physician
