What Causes Knee Pain While Bending And Walking?

I am unable to bend my right knee without alot of pain, the pain is behind the knee and also to the right side, I am unable to get up from a chair, etc without help or pain, unable to sit down without alot of pain as my leg will not bend, very difficult to walk too far as their is alot of pain, I know I have to have a knee replacement but the surgeon says this is not coming directly from the knee, any advise you can give me to help this problem would be appreciated.
