What Causes Jaw Pain And Lip Spasm After A Dental Procedure?

Hello, I went to the dentist 2 days ago, the anesthetic needle hit near a nerve and shocked my face up to my ear and on my chin. It took a while for the numbness to wear off, but now 2 days later my jaw is hurting near my ear and i have a spasm in my bottom lip and i cant open my mouth very wide. What has happened here and what should i do? Thankyou

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain it seems that due to hitting of the nerve with the injection needle there has been traumatic injury to the nerve and it is causing nerve paresthesia causing quivering of the lip and also pain..

Difficulty in opening mouth and pain near the ear and jaw can be due to infection at the site of dental treatment leading to Trismus..
It can also be due to stiffness in the muscles of the cheek..

I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigation like x ray can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly...

As of now you can take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, muscle relaxant like Chlorzoxasone and also do warm saline gargles..
Do alternate warm and cool compresses over the cheeks..
Take a soft diet and try to open the mouth wide under limits of tolerance of pain..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..

Thanks for contacting healthcare magic.

After dental treatment you are feeling pain around ear and restricted mouth opening that may be because of any nerve irritation or injury.

You are not mention that in which tooth you have problem and anaesthesia at where???
Sometime during nerve block chanses of nerve injury also.Inform a complete case of you.
If extraction of wisdom tooth done than more chanses of restricted mouth opening.

Consent a dentist again. Proper oralcavity examination give exact idea.

I hope my guidance helpful to you..
Take care.
Thank you.
