What Causes Itchy, Red And Tender Skin On The Abdomen?

I have been on 0.05/.14 combipatch for 5 years with no adverse side effects. The past two months the patch (underneath) becomes red and itches. One patch I took off looked like a red blister with tender skin underneath which looks horrible. My abdomen looks like crop circles. The patches are very irritating, but do not want to stop taking them because they do a lot of good for me. I am 63 years old. What can I do for this, if anything?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
I understand your concern.
You are on combipatch for last 5 years...it seems the skin rashes you have are due to local irritation_allergy due to prolonged use.
I would suggest to shift to oral HRT (dosage &brand with your gynecologist's advise) &withdraw the skin patch to get rid of the local reaction. You may need a dose of anti allergic medicines like ceteozine over the counter /local steroids to combat present symptoms
please consult dermatologist for specific advise . Thanks.
I find this answer helpful
