What Causes Itchy Rashes Around The Joints?

For the past six months, I ve had a rash around several of my joints (not all at once--coming and going). The rash is extremely itchy. At first, a doctor thought it was fungal and treated it as such (it was around my right elbow and had a ridge at the edges; it also moved outward in a ring as the weeks progressed). It took 4-5 weeks to go away, all the while using an anti-fungal. It has now reappeared on the other elbow, one of my knees, and on my wrist. I ve been tested for Lyme because of the ring, but my bloodwork showed no Lyme titer. Could it be eczema? I ve had psoriasis, but it s nothing like that. I m using an ointment prescribed by my doctor, but it doesn t help much.

Hi,

As per your query you have symptoms of itchy rashes around the joints which is very common due to blockage of sebaceous glands leading to folliculitis and could be due to the fact as dirt and moisture get trapped by your clothing.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you keep this area clean and dry and apply a cream containing azelaic acid. You should apply warm compresses with a soaked towel and apply vitamin C serum at night. You should avoid touching or pricking rashes. If the condition doesn't get better then consult a dermatologist for proper examination. The doctor will examine physically along with blood test and sample for a lab test. The doctor may prescribe immunosuppressants, antibiotics like clindamycin, and anti-inflammatory medication. Apply ice pack on rashes 2-3 times a day.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
