Both of these require a specific prescribed medication for treatment eg permethrin. He can consider seeing his gp initially to assess for these infections and rule out other causes of generalised itching such as thyroid disease, liver disease, kidney disease, allergies. These would require blood tests such as liver function tests, thyroid tests, kidney function tests and IgE (for allergies, though also goes up with parasite infections) Treatment would depend on the cause.
