I have two itchy red patches on my throat. The larger one (abt the size of a dime) itches more than the other (abt the circumference of a pea). I also come to find out that my mother has the same as well, yet we do not live together anymore. We are the only ones out of our family and my roommate to have these. Whats the deal?
Itchy red patches at the back of the throat is commonly caused by bacterial infection. It may be indicative of strep throat or oral thrush. Get clinically examined by an ENT. Gargle your throat with warm salt water twice daily. Get swab test and sputum test done. You can take a course of Amoxicillin or Penicillin orally. You should get relief. Take liquid diet.
In case of oral thrush your treating doctor will prescribe a course of Fluconazole. However, such symptoms are also manifested by viral infections like oral herpes or mononucleosis. Get examined and treated at the earliest. Stay away from addictions if any.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
