What Causes Itchy Dandruff On Labia Majora?

hello, my mother states she has had a extremely itchy, drandruff like scaling on the top (outer) of her labia majora. there are not blisters, no rash, no discharge. and no parasites (crabs etc). the dry skin comes on over night,...she removed it in the am which relieves the itching. she has recently started crestor and ezetrol within the last two months. could this be a fungal side affect?

hi
thank you for asking your concern and welcome to hcm. fungal infection due to these drugs are not documented and it is very unlikely that infection can be their side effect. i suspect it as a fungal infection unrelated to drugs. it seem as tinea cruris to me. which is most common fungal infection. i would advice clotrimazole cream during night time is also sufficient for most if not reliving two times can be tried. local antifungal is the first to try and not reliving with local then we have to give tablet like griseofulvin but first try local.
if your mother is having white vaginal discharge or repeated episodes of such itching or burning urination then i would suggest to visit a doctor and screen for diabetes. if mother is in menopause then hormonal therapy may be needed.
i hope i answered your concern if you feel any doubt please ask us
regards
dr. abhijit
