What Causes Itching, tenderness And Bleeding In The Scar From Previous Wound?

A scar on my arm that is several years old gets very itchy, red and tender a few times a year. It usually bleeds as it is doing now. I got the scar from a deep cut with a piece of metal that I took care of myself with nu skin rather that getting stitches. Is this normal?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
No, this is not normal. Any change in size, color, and texture in a scar is abnormal. I would infer two possibilities from your symptoms – keloid & malignant change. I exclude hypertrophic scar due to presence of itching. Keloid is characterized by increase in size and itching. Very rarely, squamous cell carcinoma develops from very old scar. In this case, regional lymph nodes are also enlarged.
Advice
1.     Investigation – biopsy of scar tissue
2.     Apply beclomethsone cream (Betnovate cream) locally three times daily for relief from itching
3.     Consult a general surgeon for proper examination and diagnosis
Thanks
