What Causes Itching Sensation At The Incision Site?
Last Wednesday, I had laparoscopic surgery to remove my gallbladder. I noticed over the weekend that the sites were itchy, but until yesterday afternoon there was no rash. I called the surgeon yesterday and he told me I could remove the glue on the sites and take Benedryl. I called back today and he prescribed Clobestasol. I have applied it twice today now, and there is absolutely no relief to the itching. How long should I wait before seeking further assistance? The only relief I get from the itch is by using ice, but then I wake up several times during the night once the ice pack melts.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As per your case history of pruritus on suture site, my treatment advice is - 1. Don't scratch the lesion as it may worsen the condition. 2. Apply a mild antibiotic plus steroid cream like fusiderm-b cream twice daily on it. 3. Apply a placentrax gel twice daily on it. 4. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine twice daily for itching.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
