What Causes Itching And Cracking On The Soles Of The Foot?
Hi Dr. Going on two years now, I have itching and cracking on the sole of my right foot only. Located between the arch and up onto the ball of my foot. Tried OTC fungal and cortisone applications to no avail. Sometimes it goes away, but then returns. I spent the last 4 years in Hawaii prior to returning to the mainland here in AZ.
Cracking and itching over the sole of the foot could be due to two main reasons. The first is tinea pedis which is a fungal infection and the second being Plantar keratoderma which is a disorder that occurs due to dysfunction in proliferation of the cells of your skin. Are your Web spaces also involved? If so then it goes in favour of fungal infection. You must avoid using harsh detergents as both the conditions are aggregated by the same.
