What Causes Itching And Burning Sensation In The Fingers And Wrists?

I have red blotches on tops &sides of my hands which began 2 months ago with itching between my fingers, then spread to my hand and wrist (on one hand.) The itching has been intense, the burning has caused my hands where affected to peal over and over again. I have seen 2 doctors and no diagnosis has been found; have had blood tests; no answers there. This is the 4 th time this has happened to me since I had shingles in Dec. 2010. I don t know if related to shingles or not? Don t know where to look for answers. Where affected, my hands look aged to 90 years old!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Since there is a history of shingles this may be a recurrence of it or ill-treated or you have any additional problems that are causing low immunity which in turn is causing the problems of peeling, rash and all.

I would advise you to see a Physician of infectious disease specialist for proper clinical evaluation and then to go for all relevant investigations so that a proper cause may be found and thus treated well.

In the meantime take symptomatic treatment for itching. You may need a full course of anti-viral medications as per the cause found. Take multivitamins and minerals to boost immunity.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant,
General Surgeon
