What Causes Itching All Over The Body After Taking Melatonin?

At about 11:30 I took a melatonin supplement and I woke at about 1:30, after having some kind of nightmare, with severe itching all over my body, especially my arms and it felt as if my throat was closing. Could this be from the melatonin or something else?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It definitely sounds like an allergic reaction. It could be to any agent including the melatonin.

The use of an antihistamine would help to reduce the reaction. If the reaction is very severe and associated with difficulty breathing then you need to see a doctor as soon as possible.

Allergy testing may be needed to determine the source.

I hope this helps
