What Causes Itchiness In The Hands?

I have had 3 recent episodes where my hands begin to itch and then my feet and soon my whole body itches. I have taken benedryl to relieve the symptoms but it takes about 1 - 1.5 hours to subside. Any ideas on what is causing this reaction and what is the best way to treat? I have not been able to identify what it is that causes this.

Dear

Welcome to Healthcaremagic

You are having an urticaria which is generally due to unknown allergy causing substances irritating your body and especially skin. Please do not worry as the problem limits by itself and all that you need is symptomatic relief and a serious attempt to find a cause for the same. Most patients get well controlled with Anti allergic medication like Cetirizine given for a variable length of time without any bothersome major side effects. A soothing preparation called calamine helps get immediate relief.
In case you develop any breathing problem, the you might need steroids or a referral to emergency deptt of a hospital but that is a rarity and one is better off when one is prepared even for rare happenings.
Have a good time and share your experience with the suggestions that we provided.
