What Causes Itchiness And Prickly Sensation All Over Body After Taking Metformin?

just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. on metformin 1500 daily. was fine for past 5 months. now feel absolutely ill. got a strange itchy,jaggy feeling all over, feel sick,not really getting any sleep,was.was trawling the net as i also have slight pain and funny feeling where the gall bladder is ,looked it up and found out that feeling itchy, stomach pain,..cant remember the rest anyway have you any ideas

Hi,

These symptoms can be due to sensory neuropathy related to diabetes but rarely Metformin can also cause such symptoms specially if it's causing lactic acidosis. So it may be switched to Sulphonylureas group like Glibenclamide or Sitaglipitin. Tight sugar control may reverse the symptoms. Using Gabapentin can also be helpful.
