What Causes Irritability While On Methadone?

My son is 37 and is on methadone past a Lortab addiction. He has been having outbursts of anger for no reason and irritable when I just want to have a conversation. He will go off on me and then in a few hours text and say he just feels overwhelmed and doesn t know what come over him. He works nights. Is this anything to worry about?

Hello,
Irritability and agitation are common side effects of methadone therapy. I would suggest you to encourage your son by more positive reinforcement and do not enter into arguments that could push him towards addiction.
Make sure that he follows the deaddiction programme till the final stage. And along with medications, counselling also helps in long term to reduce tendency for addiction.
I hope the above information helps you. Thanks for writing into healthcaremagic. Have a nice day.
