What Causes Irregular Periods?

My granddaughter started her period, she is on a type of birth control that she takes for 3months, so she only has a period every three months. Today she started, and passed a half dollar sized type of a clot that was whitish with membrane like things going through it. Is this something I need to be concerned of, and what was it.

Hi, I think it can be due to some infections also. Get her examined by a gynecologist. If you are suspecting pregnancy, do a urine pregnancy test at home to rule out pregnancy.
