What Causes Irregular Menstrual Cycle?

Hello, just want to ask something about menstruation. So i'm 20 yrs old and I have irregular periods and it's been like this since I started around 7 years ago. (I think I had a few months of regular periods at the start of puberty -which i don't really remember much.) But there are some times were my period comes once monthly, and other times where it doesn't come for months. There was also one time where I had 2 periods in 1 month. Recently, I had my period in May & June then it hasn't came back since then. It was also a little irregular i think before that. As I am a student, I have noticed that my period seems to arrive during exam season (just wondering if stress is a factor to my period starting? - as i've read that it can be a factor to irregular periods).. So my question is, is this normal? I do get a little worried as although some of my friends say they get irregular periods too from time to time, mine has just always been like this and I've never really met anyone who is the same...

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.
Irregular period as you mentioned are not normal. Here are other common causes of irregular periods:
1 Excessive weight gain such as an eating disorder can cause irregular period. Also large weight loss can also cause irregularity of the periods
2 Excessive stress or emotional problems can also cause irregular periods
3 Hormonal problems such as thyroid disorder
4 Problems with the pelvic organs such as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) can cause irregular periods

you should visit a Gynaecologist, she would diagnose the cause of irregular periods & treat accordingly

Don't worry you would be fine
Hoping your query is solved.
