I have irregular heartbeats , I am aware that my heart is beating hard thumps , not especially fast just hard without exerting myself. Sometimes I am just sitting. I am sleeping sometimes and it wakes me. I have slight dizziness , only sjoight. This has been going on for years but is getting worse and more often. What do you think this could be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

There are different types and causes of irregular heart rhythms, called arrhythmias. The exact type and likely cause would need to be determined with an ECG and possibly a holter test (24 hour ECG). Treatment would then be initiated after the cause is known.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
