General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
Menarche, the start of menstrual cycles, can be a irregular. This can be so for the first few years.

Some heavy bleeding/prolonged bleeding is expected as well. However, heavy AND prolonged combined may be too stressful for your daughter.
This issue needs to be addressed.

I recommend you see an Pediatrician or a gynecologist to rule out any hormonal imbalances or other problems (like Endometriosis) as a cause for the excessive & prolonged bleed.

Don't worry if it is irregular or if there is prolonged scanty flow after the first 3days.
This should normalize by the age of 14-15. If not, or if there is heavy bleeding even after the 4th day, consult a gynecologist.

If she does need hormonal therapy, I recommend trying alternative medications like Homeopathy first. This will help regulate cycles and reduce bleeding without the side effects. If this too doesn't help, she may need hormonal therapy for a couple of months.

Hope I've answered your questions.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

Wish you both good health.
