What Causes Involuntary Shivers In The Body?

Was feeling generally unwell all day but not specifically sick . In bed after supper I began to shiver uncontrollably for no apparent reason. Only time that ever happened to me before was 40 yrs ago when I had an UTI and was hospitalized for 3 days. - My only thought is I might be having low blood sugar tho only diag earlier with pre-dbm and never treated for it. I m 82, otherwise in generally good health. So I drank a small glass of orange juice (was an avid hiker in earlier days, carried an orange on the trail for any of my buddies who might have a sugar problem). It seemed to work, 10 or so minutes later the shivering stopped. What might be going on here?

Hello,

Low sugar levels can cause shivering but also sweating, heart pounding and altering of the thinking and consciousness. There are also other reasons for the shivering. If you are having fever it might cause shivering the moment the fever is going up.
If the shivering happens again it might be good to check your temperature. Make sure you drink well and eat well. Seeing your doctor might be a good idea to rule out any infection that might be going on as both fever and low sugar levels can happen in elderly with infections.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
