What Causes Inflammation In The Throat While On Aspirin?

My husband had a TIA the end of March. The Dr. Put him on a statin drug and 162 mg of aspirin. After a few days his mouth seemed to be swollen and his tongue swollen. After talking to a Dr. He was told to quit the statin drug and continue the aspirin. He has been off the statin drug about 5 days. His throat is red and also the uvula. Should he be off the aspirin also?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Throat inflammation seems to be from the lowered immunity after consumption of aspirin for certain period of time. Proper local care with benzyl gluconate, plenty of liquids orally, necessary antibiotic, anti-inflammatory drugs will help to recover faster.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
