What Causes Inflammation In The Nasal Cavity While On Prednisone For Cold?

is it safe for my eight year old daughter take a 10mg oral tab prednisone? she weighs around 54-56 lbs. she has been having running nose for a couple of days and sore throat. I think there may be some inflammation in the nasal cavity and the prednisone 10mg oral tab may help the 15mg/5ml oral suspension is not working with her anymore I don t think.

Hi,
If your daughter suffers with regular nasal allergy , in acute illness she may require Prednisolone oral tablets. But for long standing illness we should start to use steroid nasal sprays containing mometasone or fluticasone. The absorbtion from intra nasal sprays are negligible.
You try this regime :
Mometasone nasal spray i puff both nostrils twice daily for 3 months along with Tab motelukast levocetrizine combination for a month at night followed by plain montelukast for 3 months. Breathing yoga exercise , avoiding milk products after 6 pm /avoiding cold products all may help.
In case you need further claritry on intra nasal spray's safety taslk to your ENT dr. Take care.
