What Causes Inflamed Throat With Difficult Swallowing?

I have been having trouble when swallowing for the last year or so. also, intermittent bouts of tenderness on the right side of my neck. I often feel that there is inflammation or blockage when swallowing anything. When I explore the area, I notice a sharp bony feeling protrusion down my throat. Any ideas?
