What Causes Increased Depression Post Intake Of Depression Medications?

My daughter, who is 19, started taking Celexa 10mg 5 days ago for depression ( first time on antidepressants) and her symptoms of being down, depressed have got worse. She is suppose to bump up to 20 mg on Monday if she doesn t feel any different. Should she stop taking the meds since her depression has gotten worse?

Psychologist 's  Response
Hello,

The dosage for depression treatment is always like this. Start with the desired dosage, then increase the dosage and then on respite, decrease and stop. You can talk to your psychiatrist if the child feels any new symptoms or worsening of symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr K. V. Anand, Psychologist
